More About Amelia Jane
1954
As well as the Amelia Jane books, Sylvia Venus illustrated
a number of Blyton short stories. To my mind she captures the atmosphere of Enid's work wonderfully well and is one of my
own favourite artists.

N.B. The Dean editions from the 1960s are not included.
Apart from the Brer Rabbit books, Grace Lodge illustrated
several other Blyton titles including the children's prayer book Before I Go to Sleep (1947), (see page 14,
Religious works). In The Dictionary of 20th. Century British Book Illustrators, her entry reads: "A rather uninspiring
illustrator of children's books.....". Although I am no expert, I think this is rather unkind and unfair. The entry goes on
to say that she illustrated a book entitled The Boy Next Door, (A. Adams, 1952). The only book with this title with
which I am familiar is the Blyton one from 1944, illustrated by Alfred E. Bestall - so maybe they got that wrong as well.
