The Secret Seven series was created for children a little younger than those who enjoyed The Famous Five and Adventure series'. It was inspired by the children of an employee of Brockhampton Press, who had formed a secret society, and met in a garden shed. Their fictitious counterparts are Janet, Peter, Pam, Colin, Barbara, Jack and George. Unlike Timmy, number five in the Famous Five, poor old Scamper the dog doesn't form part of the Seven.
